Wellness has been defined as “an active process of becoming aware of and learning to make healthy choices.” Wellness means more than simply not being ill; it’s a proactive approach to keeping your mind and body in good condition.
The Local 22 Health Plan wants to help you decrease your risk of disease, or manage an existing disease, and enhance your quality of life. That’s why we strive to have the City fund financial incentives to you (and your spouse) for completing activities centered around a healthier lifestyle.
Philly Fire ‘s Motivated Fitness is dedicated to Local 22 and the Philadelphia Fire Department member’s health and well-being. The program includes a group of certified motivated personal fitness trainers, all of whom are firefighters or paramedics, whose main objective is to bring a healthy lifestyle to our membership. This is accomplished through personal one on one training, small group fitness programs, and nutrition education. The goal of the trainers is to provide our members with not only strength and physical conditioning but also the nutritional knowledge to lead a healthier well – balanced life.
Philly Fire’s Motivated Fitness is dedicated to Local 22 and the Philadelphia Fire Department’s health and well-being. Philly Fire’s Motivated Fitness, your health plan, has certified trainers deploying throughout the department in individual territories [battalions]. Each Motivated Fitness Trainer [“MFT”] will have the responsibility of providing support and assistance to our members as they strive to reach their own individual health goals.
Initially, and periodically, our MFT’s will visit and reach out to each of their assigned stations, introducing themselves and offering fitness services that include:

Remembering, that the type of fuel you decide to put into your body will determine its outcome, it will determine how smoothly you function.
Many people associate healthy nutrition and fitness with dry/ bland foods that are both unappetizing and bad tasting. This is not the case. Make it fun! Find ways to cook the meals you love a healthier way and with great taste. Being in the Fire Service we all take pride in our cooking skills. It’s not easy eating healthy all the time, nor is it always cheaper. But, there are ways!
Philly Fire’s Motivated Fitness is here to help guide you through the process. Our 15 Motivated Fitness Trainers are certified to help you not only meet your fitness goals, but your nutritional goals as well. We have registered nutritionist and dieticians on hand. All part of Local 22’s Health Plan to provide you and your family with a healthier lifestyle!
